Family Life Park Field Preparation In Progress

Preparation for the laying of sod is the primary focus of construction this week at the Family Life Park. The north field (field 3) will be the first in the park to get the finishing sod. This field, located north of 41st Street, will soon be known as the "orange" field because of the color of the shade sails to be installed over the dugout. The fine grading of the soil is complete and the irrigation system is installed. At the end of this week, the crew will start laying sod. Then the magnetic, underground marking system will be installed to establish permanent reference locations to quickly and accurately stripe the fields for baseball and soccer games.

Upcoming is the same finishing process for fields 1 and 2. Field 1 is the largest and backs up to NW 39th Expressway. When installed, the dugout shade sails will designate this field as the "green" field; the T-ball field will be the "blue" field. Other finishing elements have been completed recently, including the exterior fencing and backstops for each baseball/T-ball field. These are busy days as the park takes shape!
