Why We Love Recreation Ministries: Sports As A Bridge to Community

Davis Hodam and his wife, Stephanie, have coached numerous teams in just about every BFC Recreation sports league. Davis is passionate about how sports ministry can intersect with and impact our faith journey.

Davis shares, “Throughout my life, God has used sports to draw me closer to His family. BFC Recreation Ministries provides me the tremendous opportunity to connect with His children through a shared passion and serve Him at the same time! Between myself, my wife, and our kids, we have done it all: Mighty Mites, micro, minors, and majors for soccer, basketball, and baseball!

I'm a big fan of the ‘All-Star’ games, where the spotlight is put on each of the players. This wonderful event moves normal competition to another level, where every kid is reminded that they are loved, and most importantly, know they are valued!

We had first-row seats watching a beautiful family, whom we love dearly, walk across ‘the bridge’ from BFC Recreation Ministries into a consistent fellowship with the BFC community and then with our Savior. This has been the most important moment of our commitment to this ministry. We truly believe #ItsAlwaysMoreThanSports.”

The Hodams' story reminds us of the power of our Community Ministries in connecting kids and their families to the church community for the very first time. We are excited to see how God continues to use BFC Recreation, and the new Family Life Park, as a place of community, belonging, and growing in relationship with one another and with God.
