Why We Love Recreation Ministries: Building Character & Forming Relationships

Alex da Silva poses for a photo during BFC Recreation basketball games on February 10th, 2024.

Recreation Ministries provides the opportunity for people to play together and connect with one another through sports and other group wellness activities. One of our community’s favorite aspects of Recreation Ministries is our kids sports leagues. These programs teach kids the basics of sports and teamwork in a fun and positive environment.

Alex DaSilva has served as a coach, league commissioner, and now works as Recreation Coordinator. In this position he is overseeing programs, developing leaders, and creating a culture of hospitality throughout the ministry. He is passionate about Recreation Ministries!

Alex shared his experience like this, “I love seeing when a kid, who struggles a little bit more than others, scores. The reaction of the kid's parents, and the parents of the opposing team cheering and celebrating, really touches me. We can say sports is about competition, but it’s also about building character, creating friendships, and forming all of us to be better people. When we use sports as a venue to share and get kids involved, we show that God is in every area of our lives and community. Mixing sports and the presence of God impacts lives more than we know.”

Alex’s experience reminds us all that Recreation is always more than sports! We can’t wait to see how God continues to use Recreation Ministries, the Family Life Center, and the much anticipated Family Life Park to help people find a place to belong and grow in their relationships with one another and with God.
